This began in the lounge section of the ConceptArt forums a few days ago and has since grown to epic proportions. It started when a new member of the forums posted a picture of a character he had drawn and asked other forum-goers to post their own variations of his character. 99% of the time, this would probably result in a bit of flaming and maybe even a quickly closed thread, no matter how polite you are about it. However, this guy was about as lucky as you can get. One of the pros decided to kick it off with an honest (and fantastic) interpretation, and the whole thing snowballed out of control. It seems to have become an instant forum meme and so far it has amassed more than 250 interpretations. (Minor warning: Like most big things on CA, it sometimes gets a little NSFW)

That's not the best part though. The most amazing part is who some of the pictures are from. If you're not a member of the forums, you wouldn't be expected to recognize any names, but you would probably recognize some of their works. There's versions from members of the art teams for Infamous, Killzone 2, World of Warcraft, LittleBigPlanet, and dozens of other video games. There's versions by gallery artists, comic book artists, professional illustrators, graphic designers, and toy designers. Of course, there's also versions by amateurs and miscellaneous people who joined the site just to contribute.

Anyway, the result is basically a big, glorious ball of internet fantasticality and I thought I'd share it. Two notably awesome interpretations are by acclaimed Marvel comic artist Marko Djurdjevic (on page 3) and Andrew "Android" Jones (on page 16), a gallery artist who designed many of the creatures and characters in the Metroid Prime games.
